Volkswagen reveals VW Polo R-Line

VW Polo R-Line - arrives in the UK in July

Volkswagen has added an R-Line trim for the Polo in the UK. Comes in 3dr or 5dr with 105PS 1.2 TSI engine. Starts at £15,195.

We tend to think of the VW R-Line cars as a bolt-on sporty pack for VW’s more prosaic offerings. For example, the Tiguan R-Line is an add-on pack across the Tiguan range for an extra £2k or so for the interior or exterior pack.

But for some reason best known to VW’s marketing bods, the newly announced VW Polo R-Line isn’t an odd-on pack for the Polo range, but a new model.

VW say the Polo R-Line is based on the Polo Match and comes with just the 105PS 1.2 litre TFSI. Except the Polo Match isn’t offered with the 105PS version of the 1.2 TFSI. So the Polo R-Line becomes a stand-alone, single engine model sitting between the Polo Match and the Polo SEL. With us so far?

The Polo R-Line gets what you’d expect an R-Line Polo to get with an R-Line bodykit, 16″ alloys, privacy glass, sports seats and R-Line logos wherever you look.Standard equipment includes AirCon, electric windows, electric heated door mirrors, tyre pressure monitor and remote locking.

At prices starting at £15,195 for the 3dr and £15,815 for the 5dr the Polo R-Line basically gives you a sporty look with the 105PS 1.2 TFSI engine, sacrificing the equipment levels of the Polo SEL for the sporty looks of the R-Line, for much the same price.

We’d much rather have seen the R-Line as a bolt-on pack across the Polo range, then you could have had the equipment levels you want with the R-Line added on. But VW knows best.

The VW Polo R-Line is now on sale with first deliveries expected in July.
