Volvo Compare: A very useful car data comparison tool

Thu, 09 Aug 2012

Volvo has launched ‘Volvo Compare’, a very useful car data comparison tool, with data supplied by motoring experts CAP.

Why didn’t we think of it?

Volvo has launched a very good car data comparison tool – Volvo Compare – on their website allowing motorists to compare any Volvo model against any three other cars and get an instant display of features and prices of all four cars.

Data on offer currently includes 16 cost and feature attributes to help car buyers sensibly, and easily, compare stuff from VED and BIK rates to power, performance and residual values.

Of course, the whole point of the tool is to compare other car makers’ offerings to those of Volvo, and if you pick any Volvo model the tool will auto suggest cars with which to compare it. But if you’re simply interested in what the figures are for you car – or a car you’re contemplating buying – the tool can do that too, albeit as a comparison to a Volvo.

Sadly, what’s missing from the tool is data for NOx and particulates, something both Cars UK and Volvo believe should be the basis for car taxation, not CO2. So we asked Volvo why this data isn’t included.

It seems that NOx and particulate data isn’t yet widely available in CAP’s database, but it’s something CAP are working hard to correct and as soon as there is sufficient data it will be added to the tool. Great news.

Because then you can prove to your ‘Green’ friends that your new Porsche 911 is actually kinder to the planet than a Fiat 500.

Well done, Volvo.
