Volvo S60 Concept shows its face

[ad#ad-1]

A few weeks ago, we brought you some teaser images of the upcoming Volvo S60, and we speculated that it would look just like every other Volvo when it arrived. Well, it’s only the concept, but it looks like I might have to eat my shoes – it looks very good, and very un-Volvo like.

When the pictures came in, at first glance I thought it was more images of the Jaguar XF Coupe we saw a couple of weeks ago, but in an odd colour. It looks that good. Gone are the somewhat staid looks of Volvo, and in comes a much more aggressive look. Good Lord, I might become a Volvo fan.

Volvo S60 Concept to be shown at Detroit

In keeping with recent design trends, the S60 sports an almost coupe roofline, although this is a four door car. It sports the usual concept stuff, like completely impractical interior (which will never make it to production), and odd coach/sliding rear doors (which I also doubt will make the production model either) but if Volvo can keep the exterior styling pretty much intact, they will be on to a winner.

The back of the car is a bit lame-looking, but this is definitely a step in the right direction. The usual safety stuff abounds (a Volvo forte, of course).

And now it looks like Volvo is safe from imminent sale after securing financial help from the Swedish government, Volvo should be well placed to move forward with more modern, visually appealing cars as the market returns to some sense of normality in the next year.
