Vöcks latest creation – The Vox Volvo P1800 -is based on the iconic Volvo P1800, which those of a certain age will remember was driven by Roger Moore’s Saint back in the ’60s. In its day the P1800 was something of a revelation – a sporty, appealing Volvo (come to think of it, it’s still a bit of a revelation!).

Vöcks has remained faithful to the original P1800, at least in style. A few modifications have been made, such as a rear diffuser, flat underbody and a new front wing to make the car a bit more slippery, and the interior has had a modern re-work. And of course the necessary set of tasty, oversized wheels.

But it’s the oily bits that have received all the big attention. The original P1800 had to make do with a pretty feeble 1800cc and around 100bhp. Not too sluggish by ’60s standards, but arthritic in terms of today’s power outputs. So Vöcks has dropped in a 4.4 litre Volvo V8 (straight out of the XC90) but with a nice turbo unit added to bring power output up to around 550bhp.

Vöcks creation – the Vox Volvo P1800 – in partnership with Swedish design firm Vizualtech, intends a limited production of the car, at prices yet to be announced.

You can almost see the smile on Roger Moore’s face.
