Supermarkets cut petrol prices

MOTORISTS have received some late-autumn cheer in the form of supermarket cuts to the price of petrol. Asda, Morrisons, Sainsbury's and Tesco all announced that reductions would take effect from today. Asda said that no one filling up at its forecourts would pay more than 126.7p a litre for petrol from today , with diesel priced at 133.7p.

Few expenses were spared in conceiving the Porsche Panamera, but consumers will avoid at least one cost of ownership: the ignominious gas-guzzler tax. Porsche has announced ratings for the 2010 sedan; it will get a combined figure of 18 mpg or 19 mpg from the EPA, depending on the model. This means Porsche’s four-door foray will avoid a fairly substantial cost of ownership--a tax of up to $7,700 is levied on the most prolific guzzlers.

From an entry-level A Class which will get a Renault 1.5 litre dCi lump to deliver a sub-99g/km model all the way up (eventually) to a 4WD, 300bhp AMG A Class, it looks like the new A Class will cover the bases for every buyer, and then some.
