The MINI Beachcoimber will be one of the stars of the NAIAS Next week sees the start of the 2010 Detroit Motor Show – the first big Motor Show of the season. And there will be lots of new stuff – and some not so new – and maybe even a surprise or two we don’t yet know about. Land Rover has announced that Gerry McGovern will take over as Design Director for all Land Rover design with immediate effect. Current Design Director, Geoff Upex, is to retire from the company at the end of 2006 after 23 years service and, to ensure a smooth handover, will continue to play a key role in the launch of new products including the all-new Freelander2/LR2 over the coming months. Gerry McGovern has been Director, Advanced Design, Land Rover, since 2004 and has spent the majority of his career with Land Rover and Rover Group in UK, apart from a short period with Lincoln-Mercury in the USA.

The Sir William Lyons Award, which is sponsored by Jaguar and promoted by The Guild of Motoring Writers, is free to enter and open to anyone aged between 17 and 23, of British nationality and resident in the United Kingdom. The winner will receive a trophy and a cheque for £2000 at the Guild’s annual dinner and awards evening in London.
