Wiper Arms Slipping on the mounting Pivot Assembly? Don't want to replace the whole wiper arm linkage setup? 1963 -1980? MG MGB - Car Wiper Pivot Spline Repair Kit - See Pictures 4 & 5 I have been advised by an MGB owner who enlarged the small center hole of this spline from 7/32" to 1/4" on his 1972 MGB that this might also work for this repair on your 1963 - 1980 MG and MGB. You are encouraged to verify if this will work on your year and model.
He went on to explain that there are two kinds of cars: Roadsters (convertibles) and GT's (coupes). Early Roadsters require two splines per car, but from the late '60's onward they require three splines per car. GT's of all years require only two splines per car.
He further clarified that the original splines on the MG's are held onto the shaft without a set screw. The original shaft is splined itself and after installing the collar it then appears the end of the shaft was peened to capture the spline collar in place. After removing the original spline collar, he used a Dremel rotary tool to grind a little bit of the edge of the shaft to remove the "flared" or "peened" end so that he could slip the new spline collar in place. Took two or three minutes of effort at the most.
He indicated that it saved him quite a lot of money since new wheel boxes are $60 each (2 required for his car). This repair kit has a new knurled knob that will be held onto your linkage with the provided set screw. Wondering if these would fit your classic car: All the following are Round - No slots or groves - just a pointed set screw to grab the shaft. I did not measure with a MIC. Check out my other items!
