This auction is for a quick price quote on a Laser Cutting and/or engraving service.  When you purchase this service we will provide you a quick-quote on your project.  We are happy to accommodate large multi-run projects as well as one-off projects.

Just posted a photo of a 96" stainless sign we did for a new client ASPIS!

Just started working with a Kickstarter client - helping product over 600 stainless parts!

Cabin Digital is a rapid-prototype company based in Fredericksburg VA and is proud to now offer our Precision Laser Cutting and Engraving as a service.  We are a small business with dedication to our customers and quick turn projects.

When we added a CNC Laser to our shop several years ago we initially bought a Chinese CO2 laser for our occasional cutting projects.  While that laser worked ok we quickly realized the quality and speed of cutting was not good enough even for our in house projects.  The cuts were marginal and engraving very limited.

We made the $150K+ investment and bought a US made KERN Laser.  This was one of our best decisions!  The Kern uses an RF GAP laser that is easily tuned to optimize cutting and engraving unlike the low technology glass tube mono-frequency lasers in hobby lasers.  The result is high-quality edges/cuts and engraving that is near picture qualiy on o variety of materials.  Our laser business hasn’t stopped growing we will soon add a second laser to keep up with the demand.

This is NOT a business that’s using a hobby quality laser or a 3000W+ industrial thick metal cutting laser.  We specifically choose our laser to provide the required power not possible with a hobby lasers and the precision not possible with an industrial laser.  Ask an epilog service to cut .060 stainless or ask an industrial laser to precisely engrave a photo on your material… You will soon learn they can’t or the cost and quality will suffer.

Our laser work area is 50”x52” and we can accommodate larger items in multi-cut sessions.  Cutting aluminum and brass with a CO2 laser is challenging based on the reflectivity of the molten metal and interaction with the CO2 laser beam.  We generally tell clients we can’t do it but talk to us about your project and we will work with you.

Our engraving services can also include artwork and branding support.  We have a team of artists that create and refine logos and branding that is then used on your laser cut products.

Our services include cutting and engraving on a variety of materials and dimensions.

Cutting Materials Include:

Solid woods

Plywoods

MDF

Plastics – Acrylics, Vinyls, etc

HDPE

Foams – up to 5” thick

Metals – mild and stainless up to .060

Have a strange material – ask us – we are always happy to test cut.

Engraving Materials include:

All of the above plus aluminum, brass and glass

Some recent projects:

Plastic/Acrylic - We just finished a large 3’ x 7’ 3/8” green edge acrylic sign for a government client.

Acrylic - For one client we precision cut ¼” acrylic templates weekly in large volume.  This is fast and highly efficient with very little waste plastic.  That client told us the cost savings of avoiding rework and waste material easily offsets the laser service.  We cut 100s of items for this client every week.

Acrylic – A client needed material with a non-smooth (prismatic surface) precisely cut.  Our laser cut the varying thickness perfectly where other lasers without RF modulation clearly showed poor and slow cutting.

Stainless - A client was looking for a custom stainless steel sign and logo.  We cut a combination of .060 stainless steel in mirror and brushed finishes.  Cutting mirrored stainless without damaging the finish is nearly impossible without a high-end laser like the Kern.

Stainless - A client hired us to create small precise stainless GPS tags to give as Christmas Gifts.  The tags made out of stainless are durable with small precise letters and symbols.

Stainless - We cut precise circles from fine perforated stainless steel.  These are used in commercial odor control systems and we improved cut precision/quality while decreasing costs – we now cut their yearly supply in just a few days with no rework and lower scrap.

Stainless - For a local Eagle Scout project we cut the pledge of allegiance and engraved a plaque in stainless steel.

Plywood - On another project we cut “beer cap” holders that are used as promotional giveaways.  That has spawned several small Craftsy businesses that use our service as on-demand laser cutting.

HDPE - One client wanted precise holes in High-Density PolyEthelene (HDPE) – essentially cutting board material for an easy to sanitize food display system.  We now cut all their panels for each new franchise.

Fabics – One client asked if we could engrave denim and cut fabric and we said, “let’s try!”  The results were great and we often cut complex fabric shapes used in the quilting and craft industry.

Paper – We cut stacked labels with complex shapes for a customer that uses them as part of their product branding.

Foam – We cut complex curved shapes in 4” foam for a client that uses them as chair cushion padding in their custom furniture business.

We also have a 4-axis CNC mill – and may soon offer mill services as well.  We also produce parts on our mill that are used with laser cut parts.  For example we make a custom table for a commercial CNC sewing system that includes a Laser cut table and CNC milled brackets to precisely fit the machine.

No project is too big or too small.  If we can’t do a good job we will tell you why and offer options.  Laser cutting is more complex than simply learning to use a machine.  Adding lead-ins and tuning for material is something we do on every project.
