Please be sure to check this part is right for your car as the e39 has about 3 different expansion tanks depending on the model I got this one by accident and it didn't fit my car be sure to check the bottom of your expansion tank to see if one or two hoses come off it. This tank is compatible with models that have one hose coming off the bottom of the tank
