TR3 TR4 TR4A CYLINDER HEAD REBUILT UNIT COMPLETE w/VALVES
Up for auction
is a really nice Triumph TR4 cylinder head that has been fully rebuilt with new
valves, valve guides, and springs. It has been magna-fluxed and pressure
tested, and is absolutely free of cracks. Hardened valve seats and new stellite exhaust valves have
been installed so you can use unleaded gas with no problems. This head will fit all TR3s through
TR4As with high inlet port manifolds.
This particular
style head was fitted to the final run of the TR4A production cars (Engine #
21471 and up) and is easily recognized by the chamfer on the side of the
combustion chamber and the raised flat surface between the number 1 and number
2 intake ports. This is the latest, the best performing, and the most sought
after of the TR3/TR4/TR4A series heads.
According to the various websites describing the differences in TR4 head design and evolution, the early (TR3-TR4)
heads had the intake ports ball milled to 1-5/8ths diameter for the first 1/4
inch to assure that the production intake manifold ports lined up with the
production head intake ports. The
ball mill was eliminated on the last version of the head. This eliminated the
slight turbulence at the manifold to head mating area, allowing for a higher
velocity of the air fuel mixture at low and mid range. The late heads measure
1-1/2 inch diameter at the intake port.
You don’t see
these very often and I have had this one stashed away for years, but now it’s time
for it to find a new home. New
heads from Moss Motors are priced at $2,900.00. Rebuilt heads similar to this one are being offered on ebay
from $1,500 to $1,895, but you can pick this one up for
much, much less.
Offered here at absolutely NO RESERVE and at a very modest opening bid,
so you get to set the final price. We’re going to start this one off
running at $850 and see where it goes.
Have fun with the auction and if you have any questions or need
additional information, please feel free to email.
