Pintle hook trailers are generally rugged, heavy-duty rigs, built for load carrying capacity and utility. And that means you'll need a hitch with similar characteristics. Whether your pintle hook is bolted directly to the frame of your truck or you've got a hitch that plugs into your standard 2" or larger hitch receiver, you'll need to be sure it's rated to tow the trailer weight you're pulling. Don't forget that there's no real standardization as to the height of the hitches; you'll almost certainly need to be able to adjust the height of the hitch to keep your trailer level.

Do you tow conventional trailers with ball hitches some of the time? If you have a receiver hitch, you can simply swap a ball mount and appropriately-sized ball for the pintle hook. If your pintle hook isn't readily removable, check out a combo hitch, one that will accept either a pintle hook lunette ring or a normal ball hitch coupler. Always remember that the tow rating of your tow rig is only as heavy as the lowest-rated component in the system, so don't buy trouble by trying to tow a big trailer with under-rated components.
