Oxygen Sensor, Upper by Omix-Ada®. The engine control computer regulates the air/fuel mixture using input from the primary, pre-catalyst oxygen sensor. The primary oxygen sensor detects the oxygen content of the exhaust and that of the surrounding air and uses the difference between the 2 to generate a voltage. The voltage is sent to the engine control computer, which reacts to the changing voltage value by adjusting the fuel metering at the injectors. The primary oxygen sensor signal ranges from zero to 1 volt, and under normal conditions the sensor signal should fluctuate from high to low.

If the sensor functions otherwise, there could be a problem with the engine or the sensor.
