The TPS is the sensor that indicates your vehicle input: how much you have your foot on the gas. It conveys the message in the form of a voltage signal sent to the engine control computer. A wiper arm inside the sensor is mechanically connected to the throttle and also in contact with a resistor. As the throttle moves, the wiper arm moves on the resistor, which changes the voltage output, enabling the computer to know the position of the throttle blade.
