Peugeot Expands 308 Range With Load-Lugging SW
Fri, 21 Feb 2014HOT on the heels of the arrival of its 308 family hatchback, Peugeot has unveiled its new 308 wagon. The 308 SW will get its public debut at the Geneva Motor Show next month, with cars hitting the showrooms this summer. Offering the same minimalist driving environment as the hatch, complete with a large colour touchscreen for access to the car’s main features, the SW also includes a wide range of fuel-efficient petrol and diesel engines.
First Sight: Mercedes-Benz SL
Sun, 08 Jan 2012The new high-tech, low weight Mercedes SL roadster receives its official global unveil next week in Detroit but Car Design News got an early peek of the final production car and had a chat with its designers at Mercedes' US advanced design studio in Carlsbad, California back in November. "We want to get back to clean, long-lasting design," director of Mercedes global advanced design and SL project leader, Steffen Kohl told CDN at the exclusive preview of the sixth-generation model. "So the new SL is long, sleek and still full of tension in the feature lines but less wedgy." In a short presentation Kohl felt all SLs became successfully iconic in their times because they followed two key rules – ‘sensuality' and ‘cleanness' – but alluded that the first rule may have been lost in more recent eras.
White House pushes for Friday deal on fuel-economy regulations
Wed, 27 Jul 2011The White House wants to announce as early as Friday that it has reached agreement with most automakers on a plan to raise corporate average fuel economy targets to 54.5 mpg by 2025, manufacturers' representatives said Wednesday. While no automakers have signed on to the Obama administration plan yet, most--including Ford, Toyota, General Motors and Chrysler--are generally supportive and intend to do so, the industry officials said. Each manufacturer is trying to iron out technical issues with the White House before endorsing the proposal.
