Porsche at Geneva: Porsche 918 Spyder +Video

Thu, 04 Mar 2010

The Porsche 918 Spyder arrives on the floor at Geneva As we said the other day when we reported on the Porsche 918 Spyder reveal at Geneva, we really didn’t see this coming. We all know that Porsche are playing with Hybrid tech on their road cars – the Porsche Cayenne Hybrid is here  and the Porsche Panamera Hybrid on the way – and have even had a play with a hybrid track car – the Porsche 911 GT3 R. But a Hypercar – a likely replacement for the Porsche Carrera GT – is a real surprise.

Peugeot 2008 Crossover: UK price from £12,995

Thu, 02 May 2013

That meant the Urban Crossover Concept from Geneva in 2012 turning in to the new Peugeot 2008 at the start of 2013 – before heading to Geneva 2013 for its public debut – and with that other French car maker, Renault, going a similar route with the Clio-based Captur, it’s clear the French see the future of compact cars moving away from hatchbacks to something more rugged. But unlike the Captur – which was a bit of a disappointing looking Clio on stilts – the Peugeot 2008 does look a more convincing offering, even if it’s a more generic-looking compact SUV than the Nissan Juke and would, for our money, be the pick over the Captur. Peugeot are targeting 8,000 sales a year in the UK for the 2008, and with prices starting at £12,995 and heading up to around £19,000 it seems, if anything, a quite modest target, especially as Peugeot reckons 65 per cent of 2008 customers will be new to the brand.

Audi R8 Spyder raises £620k for Elton John AIDS Foundation

Mon, 27 Jun 2011

Elton, David and the man from Audi with the chromed R8 Spyder The Elton John AIDS Foundation (EJAF) needs no big introduction from us, especially to regular readers. Quite simply, it’s an astonishingly generous charitable foundation founded by, and driven ever on, by Elton John, and it’s raised getting on for £50 million since Elton founded it in 1993, thanks in no small part to Elton’s generosity with his royalties (always making sure he has enough left over for flowers, of course). And as it’s Elton who’s the heart and soul of the EJAF, fund raisers tend to be a little more interesting than a bring and buy stall on the local village green.
