Merc to revive straight six, plus 4cyl and smaller V8s

Mercedes has just signed off a new engine family which will see most full-sized Mercs in future run four-cylinders, downsized V8s and… straight sixes. A friendly Mercedes engineer recently met CAR to disclose the engine plans for future models, including the surprise disclosure that Merc plans to switch to straight sixes, like its rivals over in Munich.  It's fair to say I almost choked on my breakfast croissant when I found out the details of the next MB engine generation which has just been signed off for release in 2015. Geneva Show 2014: BMW goes front-wheel-drive with 2 Series

HISTORY has been made on the BMW stand at the Geneva Motor Show as it has revealed the production version of its first front-wheel-drive car. The 2 Series Active Tourer is a compact MPV, also a new segment for the firm, and under the distinctive exterior it uses the same chassis and clever three-cylinder engine as seen in the new Mini. In doing so it becomes the first production BMW to send drive to the front wheels alone.

LA Motor Show: Honda brings mass-volume hydrogen power closer

HONDA has showcased its next generation hydrogen fuel cell technology, which is the first to fit entirely within a traditional engine bay. A 60% increase in energy density and a 33% reduction in size have jointly allowed the creation of the new Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV) concept, which has a range of roughly 300 miles and can be refuelled in about three minutes. With all its components in a single location, the FCEV benefits from huge freedom in design for the rest of the car.
