Deluxe Heavy-Duty Motor Cover for the British Seagull.
Authentic, original design.
Old-school materials and craftsmanship.

Just like the motor covers originally offered by Seagull, this cover fits loosely over the top and can be pulled snug around the bottom with the built-in drawcord. It fits over all Seagull models (except 125's and 170's) and all fuel tanks. The nominal dimensions are 13.5" long, 11" wide, and 13.5" high, which gives maximum protection whether the motor is tilted or upright, and is roomy enough to accommodate the tiller whether its in the 'up' or 'down' position.

Extra heavy-duty, 16oz waxed canvas is waterproof, rot and mildew resistant. It has the traditional "oiled canvas" look and feel. It has a distinct aroma...like an old Army tent... and is slightly waxy to the touch…which keeps your Seagull dry and helps fight corrosion like no synthetic material can ever do. Attractive, traditional honey-tan color looks great and is hand washable with mild soap.

All panel seams are triple-stitched (2 internal + 1 top stitch) using heavyweight, UV resistant #92 Sailmaker's thread. Rustproof, nickel-plated brass spur grommets are used for the drawcord exits. The grommets are set into a sewn leather reinforcement patch, and the polyester drawcord includes a quick-release toggle for easy opening and closing.

Photos show the cover fitted to a 40-Minus (Featherweight) with a 3-litre extended range fuel tank, and then a big 5hp Silver Century Plus with a standard brass oval tank. The last image shows an original ad from the 1970's. The green-ish tint on some of the images is just my digital camera playing tricks with the shadows...there is no green tint on the covers.

I accept PayPal and ship quickly. Approximate delivery time is 3-5 business days inside the U.S., and 6-10 days international.

These are not mass-produced, and stock quantities are very limited. Because of the heavy-weight materials and triple-stitching process, each one requires a great deal of hand-cranked stitching for accuracy and quality to the finished cover.  If you have any questions, please ask. I am also a British Seagull collector, and would love to hear from you.

One last note about sizing -

Seagull had it right. The idea of a somewhat loose-fitting cover is by far the most practical - if we're talking about protecting the motor! What good is a tighter fit, if it rides up and leaves parts exposed when the motor is tilted up? Why should the rubber tiller grip be left in the sun...and shouldn't the throttle lever be protected from rain and salt spray?

No matter which model British Seagull is being measured, there is actually very little difference between the upper powerhead dimensions.  All of the flywheels and tillers are identical, and the fuel tanks are interchangeable.  The brass tanks are 10" wide, but even a 13" wide Long Range Fuel Tank fits within the 11" wide cover because the shapes involved are...well... somewhat irregular...meaning that where part of the cover will push outward, other parts of the cover will pull inward and up.

So in a nutshell, the dimensions given are versatile enough to crossover from model to model and tank to tank, but more importantly - they offer the best level of protection for your Seagull. If however you would prefer a different set of dimensions (shorter, fatter, longer, taller, etc...), just ask. Usually there is no extra charge.

Thanks for your time...please let me know how I can help.

PS: Christmas is coming! I am also working on a reproduction of the original British Seagull Tool Pouch, because when it comes to protecting small steel parts and tools, nothing comes close to the durability and anti-corrosive properties of waxed canvas! This pouch should be kept nearby when you're running at sea with your Seagull. It matches the motor cover and is big enough to hold a code book, a signalling torch and a few last cigarettes in case you are apprehended by a German U-boat while re-enacting the invasion of Normandy... Or for the rest of us - it'll hold several spanners & screwdrivers, a spark plug, and an extra pull cord. If you'd like to try one out, I'll send it free with your order.

Concept Car of the Week: Lancia Bertone Sibilo (1978)

Fri, 02 Aug 2013

The second half of the ‘70s saw automotive design fall into an era of uninspired and uninspiring economic cars finished with cheap plastic add-ons and stuffed with beige itchy fabrics. Working from the little Bertone studio in Turin, it seems Marcello Gandini didn't get the memo and carried on drawing futuristic wedgey supercars. With the Sibilo, he pushed his signature angular style to a new level of modernity.

Bugatti sell their 400th Veyron – just 50 left to go. But what next for Bugatti?

Thu, 05 Dec 2013

The 400th Veyron – a Grand Sport Vitesse Jean-Pierre Wimille Special Edition Bugatti may have come to rely on ‘Special Edition’ Veyrons to keep making sales, but they’re now getting close to the end of their production run. The Veyron – which debuted in 2005 – is limited to a total of 300 coupes and 150 Roadsters, and all the coupes are long gone with just the Roadsters left to finish their run, and only 50 of are those left to sell. Not surprisingly, the 400th Veyron to be sold – the latest Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse Jean-Pierre Wimille Special Edition – went to a client in the Middle East at a hefty €2.14 million which, at a rates of around one a week sold for the last eight years, means the Veyron will be consigned to the Bugatti history book by the end of 2014.

Daimler and BYD name new brand Denza

Mon, 26 Mar 2012

Mercedes-Benz sources in Germany have confirmed Chinese media reports suggesting that parent company Daimler and Chinese carmaker BYD's new joint venture brand will be called Denza. Created as a Chinese-market-only brand, Denza is planned to support a range of "affordable" electric-powered vehicles, the first of which is set to be unveiled at the Beijing motor show next month. Based on the underpinnings of the first-generation Mercedes-Benz B-class--a car originally designed to accept batteries within its flat floor structure--the first Denza model was developed in China by a team of engineers from both Daimler and BYD Auto.
