50,000 new drivers lose licence within two years

Under current legislation, any new driver who receives six (or more) penalty points within two years of passing their test automatically has their licence revoked. Swiftcover.com has been sifting through the official data, and found that almost 50,000 new drivers have been banned in this fashion in the last four years. Show Review: Tokyo Concours D’Elegance

Tokyo has hosted the first of what it hopes will become the Japanese equivalent of America's Pebble Beach and Italy's Villa D'Este. Held at the plush Tokyo Midtown shopping mall/commercial complex, the Tokyo Concours D'Elegance was initiated by enthusiast Paul Goldsmith and coincided with the first public days of the Tokyo Motor Show - though regrettably also with a typhoon, forcing organisers to cover the cars on the lawns, which were ultimately closed due to flooding. Fortunately, the exhibition had been split between in- and outdoors, and while the weather lashed out at those braving the winds, there were still some interesting displays for those wishing to remain dry.

The changes aren’t huge, and as far as we can see all that’s going on is a bit of influence from the M6 and 6-Series in general, with a new kidney grill that looks like the 6 Series, and a steering wheel looks like that on the new M6 too, together with the latest iDrive controller. The leaked images don’t tell us what BMW are planning under the bonnet of the facelifted M5, but it’s not too much of a stretch to expect a Competition Package for the M5 to give it similar clout to the new Mercedes E63 AMG S.
