Volvo makes breakthrough in battery tech
Thu, 17 Oct 2013Volvo has developed a new way of ‘storing’ energy for its future electric vehicles. The Swedish firm is exploring the concept of lightweight structural energy storage components made from carbonfibre, containing “nano structured batteries and super capacitors.” This technology is said to offer a lighter, more compact solution to the problem of energy storage, potentially removing the need for the heavy, bulky batteries used in current electric vehicles. The majestic Bentley will take its place amongst the myriad other fine classic cars at the Historics at Brooklands auction in Surrey on Saturday, June 7, following the sad news of the death of the car’s current owner’s sister. Significantly, this much-loved and well-travelled Bentley – presented in fine condition inside and out – is offered at no reserve, with all proceeds from the sale donated to charity at the request of the vendor, plus Historics’ sellers and buyers’ commissions.

Sat, 01 Dec 2012We have video of the new McLaren P1 – suitably camouflaged – out testing in Spain as McLaren fettles its Ferrari F70 basher. That was borne out when we had photos of the McLaren P1 shot in Norfolk a week or two ago as the P1 visited one of McLaren’s suppliers on an industrial estate in Diss. Now we get the P1 on the move on video.
