This is the complete operating instructions and parts list for this model Elgin Outboard Motor.  The  8 1/2 by 11 inch booklet consists of 12 pages which pictures and identifies the part numbers of every element of the motor. The booklet also contains operating and care instructions, safety and courtesy tips and an emergency trouble identifier and emergency repair guide. I believe my dad bought the motor in 1949 but it could have been as early as 1947 or as late as 1952.  It was a 7 1/2 horse power motor which operated on an oil and gasoline fuel mixture.  The booklet does not specify the year or the horsepower; however I am pretty sure I remember the horsepower correctly and I know the year spread is correct.  Dad passed away in November 1954 and I know we had it at least three summer seasons before then.  I used it as a teenager fishing on Driftwood River near Columbus, Indiana until I left for College in 1958.  Mom sold it sometime after that, but I guess she didn't know where the operating instructions were.  (They were in the bottom of dad's old gun cabinet.)

Tue, 18 Feb 2014

The new Fiat Panda Cross (pictured) debuts at Geneva It might not be the top of everyone’s wish list as a baby SUV, but the Fiat Panda Cross has always been better than you’d imagine, and the latest Panda Cross – revealed ahead of a debut at the Geneva Motor Show – looks even more able than the last Panda Cross and better looking too. The 2014 Fiat Panda Cross (although it will really be a 2015 model by the time it arrives in the UK) looks like a proper baby SUV thanks to its new front bumper with a satin titanium skid plate full of round cut-outs, new back bumper with skid plate, new lights, big wheel arches, roof bars and a new set of 15″ alloys (with ‘All Seasons’ 185/65R15 tyres), whilst the interior gets Climate, Blue&Me Infotainment and height-adjustable driver’s seat. The Panda Cross also gets proper baby SUV toys like automatic drive between the axles according to grip, torque control of individual wheels when off-road and hill descent control for controlled downhill descents.

Rumormill: Aston Martin Cygnet could get V12

Fri, 26 Oct 2012

A few years ago, if you would have asked us about 500-hp city cars, we would have said, “Awesome, but never going to happen.” We were proven wrong with last year's Nissan Juke-R and we may be proven wrong again with a V12-powered Aston Martin Cygnet. That's right, Autocar reports that Aston is studying the feasibility of taking the Toyota iQ-based Cygnet and shoehorning the V12 from its Vantage and DB9 models. Aston says it could fit the V12 in the tiny car's engine bay without major modifications.
