In the 1970s alarm bells were ringing in the energy sector as a series of energy crises and rising fuel prices spiralled. The car industry was forced to produce a new generation of more efficient cars and designers were putting new models through wind tunnels to optimize their aerodynamic performance to reduce aerodynamic drag. Some pushed the limits further than others and none more so than Pininfarina, which designed a car that slipped through the air twice as efficiently than any other.

The VW Cross Coupe Concept goes diesel - and red Volkswagen are bringing the Cross Coupe Concept to Geneva, but even though it looks the same it now gets a diesel-powered hybrid powertrain. At the end of last year we saw the VW Cross Coupe Concept at the Tokyo Motor Show, an ‘Urban’ Crossover come SUV Concept from Volkswagen that looked as if it had stolen every current design trend and morphed it in to one concept. Oddly, it worked.

Audi has launched the e-Tron at Frankfurt And this morning Audi has revealed the detail. The Audi e-Tron has four electric motors producing a relatively modest 313bhp, but with a frankly unbelievable 3,319lbs/ft of torque. And we thought the new Bentley Mulsanne had a lot.
