More than four million UK drivers aged 70 or over

Data shows that there are a record 4,018,900 men and women aged 70 or over who hold a valid full British licence, with the motoring research charity predicting that number is set to rise even further. We reported yesterday on much of the detail on the new Golf R, but the Golf is such a big deal for so many that we thought we ought to re-iterate, throw in a few pictures of the Golf R on the floor at Frankfurt and re-cap on the goodies on offer. Presented at the 1999 Tokyo Motor Show, the project began when Marc Newson was commissioned by Ford global design director, J Mays, to create an innovative interior. Their mutual passion for design and their enthusiasm led to a much larger project and Newson eventually delivered a complete working prototype.
