UK's emergency Budget 2010: how it affects motorists

Mon, 21 Jun 2010

Chancellor George Osborne will make the emergency spending cuts on Tuesday 22 June By Tim Pollard Motoring Issues 21 June 2010 09:51 The new UK Government's emergency Budget tomorrow is likely to announce a raft of spending cuts and tax rises bound to affect motorists.  The new Conservative-Liberal coalition government is taking the unusual step of holding an emergency summer Budget to reduce the national deficit, which stood at £156bn in 2009-10. The senior Cabinet members signed off the details of the Budget on Friday, but the details won't be confirmed until Tuesday 22 June 2010.Here's our preview of what to expect if you're a car owner:VAT riseMost pundits agree that the rate of value added tax will rise from today's 17.5%. If raised to 20% – the upper limit expected – it could raise an extra £11 billion a year for Government coffers.

MINI First introduced

Fri, 17 Jul 2009

MINI has a new budget model - The MINI First With all things Eco the flavour of the month, and with budgets stretched in households everywhere, a cheap, entry-level budget MINI is a tempting prospect. You still get the iconic shape, and you still get a very good chassis – which translates in to good handling and a decent ride – but you’re not paying a fortune for the fripperies. After all, there are MINIs that will set you back £25k (the MINI JCW Cabriolet), but the new MINI First is a very tempting £10,950.

Lexus LFA and IS-F on track at Bruntingthorpe

Lexus LFA and IS-F joust on track at Buntingthorpe Just a couple of weeks ago we reported that the first Lexus LFA in the UK had put in an appearance at Goodwood to delight the Supercar Sunday Breakfast Club. The visit to Goodwood made it clear that Lexus were treating the LFA as a serious performance car, and not just a rich man’s toy (although it is a rich man’s toy), so we wondered where Lexus UK would go next with their very own LFA. Would they trot it up to Lexus Park Lane and put it on show for the temptation of the passing wealthy, or would they plough on with putting the LFA in front of real (if wealthy) petrolheads?
