Foreign language theory test scrapped

FROM TODAY the driving test in the UK must be taken in English or Welsh, after long-standing rules permitting foreign language speakers to sit the test were removed. Theory tests have previously been available with voiceovers in 19 foreign languages and candidates could use an interpreter on both the theory and practical driving tests. But changes that come into effect today were introduced after a consultation showed more than 70% supported the withdrawal of foreign language voiceovers and interpreters.

The second edition of ‘Concept Car of the Week' features what was hailed as "the world's mightiest supercar": the Ford GT90. The GT90 was unveiled at the 1995 Detroit auto show and acted as the poster boy of the 'New Edge' design philosophy, with its large, flat planes, angles and triangular shapes it was a major change in design direction. This car, completed in just six months, was something of a successor to the GT40, using some of its design cues such as doors that cut into the roofline, but underneath many components were borrowed from the other cars such as the Jaguar XJ220.

Saab plans to restart production on Aug. 9

Saab owner Swedish Automobile NV said Thursday that the struggling automaker aims to restart production at its Trollhaetten plant in Sweden on Aug. 9. The news follows the Swedish government's approval of Swedish Automobile's request to sell part of Saab's property unit to a consortium of Swedish real estate investors, the company said in a release.
