Chrysler, Nissan, GM set pace as industry's September volume advances 10 percent

UPDATED--U.S. auto sales--helped by big gains at Chrysler, Nissan and General Motors--overcame widespread economic jitters to rise 10 percent in September, raising hopes the industry's recovery will accelerate in coming months. It was the biggest increase in light vehicle sales since April, when surging gas prices and Japan's earthquake started to put a dent in demand.

How CATIA helped to create the SilverBull concept bike

Dassault Systèmes' latest CATIA has helped a French industrial designer to realize his concept bike, SilverBull. Strate Collège graduate Marc Boulangé set out to create a concept that would integrate both engineering and design into a finished product that would showcase the qualities of both disciplines. Boulangé calls his vision of design ‘Mechanical Poetry', and has described how it is thanks to CATIA technology that his cherished SilverBull project came to creation.

Consumer Reports gets top vehicle picks mostly right

Despite the publication's uncomfortably broad definition of reliability -- it spans everything from "the engine fell out" to "the touchscreen display shows fingerprints too easily" -- automakers still clamor to get on the Consumer Reports recommended vehicle list. This year's winners cover a broad spectrum of vehicles, and for the most part, we're in agreement with the magazine's editors, with one significant exception at the top of the list. Best overall vehicle went to the Tesla Model S.
