Kawasaki Vintage Snowmobile Factory Race Engine 440 LC Serial # X-108-440.  Yes there is a story on this engine.  This engine was put together by the Kawasaki R&D center in the Minneapolis MN area for one of the riders on the Kawasaki race team.  It looks like a 440 LC Invader engine - it is not!  Here are the modification made on this engine that I was made aware of when I acquired this engine in the mid to late 1980s.

  • Factory ported and polished cylinders
  • Shaved Heads
  • Racing pistons (I believe these are Marco pistons)
  • Balanced crank modified for high RPM
  • Stuffed crankcase to increase compression
  • Set up for Mikuni 40s with an accelerator pump addition (carb boots on this engine are for the Mikuni 40s)
  • Oil pump has been sealed off - engine ran premixed race gas - oil pump could not keep up with engine.
  • Wooden handle on recoil - compression is so high the plastic handles would break
  • Crankcase modified (section where the electric start area is has been trim off and closed up) to fit in race sled.
  • Engine was plate mounted in race sled - note there is no engine mounting plate on the recoil side.
  • Chrome nuts on heads replaced with stronger nuts.
THIS ENGINE WAS A RUNNING ENGINE WHEN ACQUIRED.  It has since never been opened up.  The compression is so high that I never wanted to mess with it.  I takes all I have to pull this engine over (of course I am not a big guy).

Very interesting engine that I have been holding on to because it was unique - but time to let go of it.  I will actually be listing 10-12 engines soon - this is the first.

This 1990 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX rally car is featured on Bring a Trailer this morning, and it brings us right back to our rambunctious high school years. Sure, we didn't get our licenses until 1996, but that was the perfect time to find something a few years old--preferably with a turbocharger and a manual transmission—and hoon it to death. But while there were several Eclipses floating around our group of friends, none was as built as this car.

The second part of our review and road test of the Mercedes C180 CGI BlueEFFICIENCY The C180 CGI BlueEFFICIENCY Executive SE comes in two flavours – auto and manual. Opt for the manual and you get a 1.6 litre Kompressor, but opt for the auto ‘box – which is what we have – and you actually get a 1.8 litre turbo. And the 1.8 litre turbo is a decent lump.

After a break on the embargo on the details of the DBS Volante earlier today, Aston Martin has decided to give us the details on the new car ahead of the launch at Geneva next week. As you would expect, it looks wonderful. Still the same gorgeous shape as the coupe, but with a dose of sun for those who want to pose.
