Concept Car of the Week: Mitsubishi HSR (1987)
Fri, 08 Nov 2013In 1987, Mitsubishi initiated a range of concept cars called HSR (High Speed Research) with the intention of creating a futuristic vision for the brand combining advanced technology, efficient power and aerodynamic design. The first concept car was designed for safely cruising on the motorway at very high speed, thanks to cutting edge electronics. The car's internal computers measured speed, weather, driver input and grip, and adjusted the 4-wheel drive system and the 4-wheel steering automatically.
Tesla ‘D’ is a 4WD Model S – with up to 682bhp!
Fri, 10 Oct 2014The Tesla Model S P85D – 0-60mph in 3.2 seconds We knew Elon Musk was planning on delivering a four-wheel-drive Tesla Model S, and now we know the Tesla Model D Musk alluded to is exactly that – a dual motor Model S. But it gets more interesting. It gets more interesting because Tesla has come up with more than one 4WD Model S, with the Model S 60D and 85D getting a 188bhp motor on both front and rear axles, with the 60D getting to 62mph in 5.7 seconds with a range of 225 miles and the 85D getting to 60mph in 5.2 seconds with a range of 295 miles.
Merc to revive straight six, plus 4cyl and smaller V8s
Tue, 25 Oct 2011Mercedes has just signed off a new engine family which will see most full-sized Mercs in future run four-cylinders, downsized V8s and… straight sixes. A friendly Mercedes engineer recently met CAR to disclose the engine plans for future models, including the surprise disclosure that Merc plans to switch to straight sixes, like its rivals over in Munich. It's fair to say I almost choked on my breakfast croissant when I found out the details of the next MB engine generation which has just been signed off for release in 2015. Mercedes' future four-cylinder engines Again, there will be a family of new low-cost fours, and the big-bore V8s will be replaced by a series of downsized turbocharged 4.0-litre units.
