CAR's review of 2009: the cars that die

It’s been out with the old for a host of models in 2009, some provoking misty-eyed fond farewells, some told not to let the factory door hit them on the bumper on the way out. We pick the saddest and happiest goodbyes of the year. A sculpted drop-top with rear-wheel drive and a frantically schizophrenic VTEC engine.  What’s not to like?

Aston Martin Lagonda

The Aston Martin Lagonda name has been resurrected again, but this iteration promises to be far less controversial than the 2009 SUV concept. Created for a select group of Middle Eastern clients, this large three-box sedan (dimensions haven't yet been made available) offers a well-judged balance between the current Aston Martin range and the idiosyncratic 1970s Lagonda by William Towns. Its proportions are very extreme for a luxury sedan, with a cabin sat far rearwards behind a very shallow A-pillar.

Volkswagen, Dogs & Star Wars – a Super Bowl Ad

VW gets the dogs out for its Super Bowl Advert Volkswagen is planning a new Star Wars themed advert for the Super Bowl, this time with dogs singing the Star Wars theme. It may not be a big deal for us on this side of the Pond, but adverts in the Super Bowl are a very big deal for car makers in the US. Last year Volkswagen managed a viral hit with their ‘Little Vader’ take on Star Wars for the Super Bowl Ad, so they’re back this year with a variation on the same theme, with a choir of dogs barking out the Star Wars Theme.
