What Is Marine Teak?

Marine Teak wood (Tectona Grandis) is commonly considered by ship builders and outdoor furniture manufacturer's to be the planet's most versatile, durable, and valuable hard wood.   Teak forests are highly regulated due to the increased demand, ecological and economical impact, and often sub-standard working conditions on plantations.  It is not a rain forest species; growing in deciduous forests at a yield of only 3-5 trees per acre.  Thus,  it is a precious resource across the globe.  However,  there are only four countries in the world that contain natural marine teak forests; Burma, Laos, India, and Thailand, with Burma (Myanmar) accounting for approximately 80% of the world's exported natural teak supply.Since the USA trade sanctions of 2003, no burmese teak has been coming into this country which has driven up teak prices to as much as $35 per board foot making this scarce resource a valuable commodity.   
 
MarineTeak is a dense, coarse, close-grained hardwood.  It contains high levels of resinous oils that allow it to be naturally resistant to moisture, repellent to insects, and impervious to the drying effects of weather.  Teak also contains silica, a sand-like component which creates a density to the wood that allows it to also be resistant to fungal decay, water, rotting, warping, shrinking, swelling and many damaging chemicals.  It will not rust or corrode metals it comes in contact with and it can withstand the elements of all seasons, with its beauty increasing with its age.  No other wood compares to 100 percent marine grade teak regarding its durability, elegance, stability and low maintenance; making it the ultimate material choice for furniture construction and ship building worldwide.

Note:  Small camera robots were sent through the sunken Titanic and discovered the teak lined walls in the turkish bath were still in pristine condition, looking like they did, the day they were installed and all of the metal and iron around it was disintegrating from corrosion!

2014 MINI leaks ahead of reveal MINI has been busy teasing the new MINI for a while, with an official reveal planned for later today to coincide with the 107th birthday of the Mini’s creator – Sir Alec Issigonis. But the best laid plans of MINI have garnered a bit of a wrinkle with the first official photos (above) of the new MINI leaking out online ahead of the official reveal. They don’t really tell us much we don’t already know – especially with the MINI Vision Concept previewing the new MINI – but do confirm the new MINI still looks as we would expect, just bigger and better equipped and based on a new BMW platform.

Audi readies flagship Sport Quattro concept for Frankfurt

Audi will unveil its new Sport Quattro concept at next month's Frankfurt motor show, previewed in a number of sketches. We first saw the Quattro concept back in 2010 at the Paris motor show and three years later the carmaker has produced another iteration, a 2+2 coupé, that measures in at 4,699mm – 419mm longer than the Quattro concept (4,280mm). From what the sketches show, the Sport Quattro retains the chunky C-pillar of the 2010 Quattro concept, the 1984 Sport Quattro and the original Ur-Quattro models, while the four headlamp units are another nod to the original.
