This is our first glimpse under the bonnet of the new Honda CR-Z Mugen, as Mugen Euro reveals further details of how it’s going to turn the CR-Z into a hot hybrid hatch. The promise? Nearly 200bhp and over 180lb ft, increases of around 50% over the standard Honda CR-Z hybrid.

This is the new, second-generation Range Rover Sport, unveiled at the New York Auto Show. While the first Sport – introduced in 2005 – was a tentative toe in the water for a second Range Rover model line, this new model forms the center of a three-model range, between Evoque and full-fat Range. At 4,850mm long it's 62mm longer than the car it replaces but 149mm shorter than the new Range Rover, while its wheelbase has grown by 178mm to increase rear access – particularly important as there's now the provision of a pair of occasional seats in a third row.

GM's top battery executive for the Volt to join California startup

General Motors's top executive in charge of developing batteries for the Chevrolet Volt plug-in hybrid is leaving to take a position with an unnamed startup battery company in California. Denise Gray, 46, global director of rechargeable energy storage systems, will step down March 5 after more than three years in the post. This was “an opportunity that I could just not resist,” Gray said in a phone interview.
