Toyota Trucks get TRD accessories at Chicago Auto Show

In pursuit of the Ford Raptor, the just-announced aftermarket Lingenfelter Reaper and who knows how many other desert-stompin' pickups and SUVs, Toyota introduced the TRD Pro Series of off-road vehicle packages at the Chicago Auto Show. The Tundra, Tacoma and 4Runner each get kits designed by Toyota Racing Development that will be installed at the factory. Fewer people being killed in car-truck collisions, study finds

Death rates in crashes between big trucks and cars dropped 64 percent in 2008-09 compared with 2000-01, according to an insurance-industry study of government data. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety cited changes in vehicle design, particularly for SUVs and pickups, as a key factor in the decline. The number of deaths for car and minivan passengers involved in crashes with larger vehicles fell from 44 per million in 2000-01 to 16 deaths per million in 2008-09, the study found.

Ferrari and watchmaker Hublot ink long-term deal

Saturday under cloudy Florentine skies, Ferrari president Luca Cordero di Montezemolo and Jean-Claude Biver, CEO of Hublot S.A., arrived at Autodromo Internazionale del Mugello, the practice track for Scuderia Ferrari, to make an announcement bright with promise: For the third time since its founding, Ferrari will enter into a long-term timepiece collaboration, this go-around with Hublot. The freshly inked five-year partnership technically commences in January, but both Montezemolo and Biver were almost giddy of Saturday's announcement and indicated that prototypes were under way. Officially Hublot will be the “watch and timekeeper of Ferrari,” as well as the “timekeeper of Scuderia Ferrari,” the company's racing arm.
