Frankfurt Motor Show 2007 Trends and Overview
Mon, 15 Oct 2007The Frankfurt Motor Show is home to the European moguls of the automotive industry. BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, the Volkswagen Group, GM Europe and much of Ford Europe all have their head offices within a few hours drive of the Frankfurt Messe, so it's only right that these automakers would bask in the limelight. But instead of competing for bragging rights for the most powerful cars in the range, this year's motor show afforded automakers an opportunity to showcase their environmental credentials and their latest 'innovative' powertrain technologies.
Secret Service issues call for next presidential limousine
Fri, 14 Mar 2014The Secret Service is mulling a replacement for Barack Obama's presidential limousine, the Cadillac-styled vehicle lovingly nicknamed "The Beast." News of the new limousine first reached the Internet via FedBizOpps.gov, the official site for Federal Business Opportunities, which provides listings and contracts for various government projects. (Some other listings included cleaning the kitchens at Okinawa, Coast Guard ship repair, and "Phacoemulsification Surgical Equipment.") It calls for a four-phase development program, which is seemingly straightforward. Phase 1 is armor development -- which is currently underway.
Jaguar Land Rover leads UK universities to develop virtual simulation tech
Tue, 11 Jun 2013Jaguar Land Rover is to lead four UK universities in a £10m ($15.5m) government scheme to develop virtual simulation technologies and processes to help improve and accelerate the car design process. The carmaker will be leading project teams from the universities of Cambridge, Loughborough, Leeds and Warwick in the Program for Simulation Innovation (PSI), developed to improve the potential of the UK virtual simulation industry. It is hoped that through its results design quality and capability can be improved through the simulation of sights, sounds and smells.
