Toyota to sell tens of thousands of fuel cell cars a year by 2020

Wed, 07 Mar 2012

Toyota FCV-R Hydrogen Fuel Cell (adsbygoogle=window.adsbygoogle||[]).push({});Toyota is pushing ahead with hydrogen fuel cell vehicles and plans to be selling tens of thousands a year by 2012, starting with the Toyota FCV-R Toyota may have brought yet another hybrid concept to Geneva, and may we have moaned again about their obsession with flogging hybrid cars. But we can’t argue  they haven’t made a success of turning car buyers on to hybrid cars, however futile a long-term route we may think it is. But it seems Toyota do agree with us on electric cars with no plans to throw their weight behind the EV in a big way, but they are gearing up to try and do with hydrogen fuel cell cars what they’ve done with hybrid cars, and are expecting to be selling tens of thousands of fuel cell powered cars a year by 2020.

Last year, perhaps a little tongue in cheek whilst being interviewed by Radio 2 jock and Ferrari nut Chris Evans, Nigel expressed a desire to get back in to F1 and said he could “…jump in a Ferrari [F1] tomorrow and be competitive.” But going backwards is not usually a sensible route – as Michael Schumacher can currently testify - but new challenges – whatever your age – are to be relished.

Saab sold to Spyker

Tue, 26 Jan 2010

General Motors' Saab division won't end up on the postbankruptcy scrap heap with Pontiac and Saturn. Just as Saab's death appeared imminent, the Swedish automaker was scooped up on Tuesday by Dutch supercar-maker Spyker Cars in a $74 million deal that has been in works for months. The deal is expected to close on Feb.
