Chevrolet Aveo RS at Detroit motor show 2010

By Tim Pollard First Official Pictures 11 January 2010 00:01 Chevrolet showed off its new go-faster rollerskate, the Chevy Aveo RS concept, at the 2010 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS). It's not that far-flung a show car, being based on the regular or garden Aveo – but pumped up with a sporty 1.4-litre turbocharged engine. As transplants go, this is the future of performance cars even in the US, say GM types.

Mercedes SLS AMG E-Cell (2010): the electric SLS

Following the unveiling of Tesla's updated Roadster 2.5, Mercedes is showing off its iteration of an all-electric sports car: the SLS AMG E-Cell. While the regular SLS pumps out 563bhp and 479lb ft from its 6.2-litre V8, the SLS E-Cell has four synchronous electric motors, powering all four wheels for a combined output of 392kW (equivalent to 526bhp) and a mammoth 649lb ft of torque. Crucially, all of that power is accessible from zero revs, allowing the E-Cell to sprint to 62mph in four seconds dead.

7th Le Mans Classic starts today

By James Fallon Motor Shows 04 July 2014 13:43 The increasingly popular biennial vintage car event, Le Mans Classic is upon us, with the action taking place between the 4th and 6th of July at the illustrious circuit in France.  The event is an opportunity for motorsport enthusiasts to see some of history’s greatest racing cars and also some great drivers.  Sébastien Loeb, Emanuele Pirro, Andy Wallace and Jean Ragnotti are amongst some of the names in attendance.  There are four-hundred and fifty entrants, carefully chosen by Peter Auto to give variety and represent certain historical periods in racing. Battles between old rivals – many of which are steeped in racing pedigree, will be replayed on track in this awesome spectacle. There are six different grids which divide the 650 entrants with each grid representing a particular period in racing.
