Infiniti has trailed a new range-extending electric sports car concept - a long way ahead of its planned debut at the 2012 Geneva motor show. The company already plans an electric Infiniti to piggyback the EV learnings from parent firm Nissan, whose Leaf is the first mainstream electric car built from scratch. But this new sports car will pack a range-extender system, with a petrol or diesel engine to charge the battery when charge gets low.

Volvo is currently testing in-car sensors that can monitor driver alertness -- ones that can determine if the driver is becoming tired and inattentive. A number of simple systems that basically generate warnings after a certain period of nonstop driving are now available in cars. They take into account the average speed and time elapsed since the vehicle was started.

Whatever way you look at it, Land Rover’s current model line-up is a bit of a mess, at least as far as the lower end – Discovery 4 and Freelander 2 – are concerned. But it’s not the sort of mess to be avoided; rather it should be embraced by buyers before Land Rover get round to fixing it. There’s no argument about the Range Rover.
