Aston Martin in talks with Mercedes for engine supply
Thu, 09 May 2013It has seemed for some time that Aston Martin’s wish-list for future engines revolved around Mercedes. They currently use a V12 developed from Ford’s Mondeo V6 and a V8 that’s a development of the 4.2 litre that was in Jaguars (and Range Rovers) until a few years ago, but new engines (and new platforms) are vital if Aston are to remain competitive. Before the recent investment in AML by Investindustrial, there were plans for Aston to use both engines and platforms from Mercedes (the Lagonda SUV was built on the underpinnings of the Mercedes GL) and even the possibility that Aston Martin would design and build the next generation Maybach.
Renault Eolab Concept
Wed, 17 Sep 2014Renault has bucked the trend of rather uninspiring Paris Motor Show previews with the Eolab. This B-segment-sized car that has been designed to a brief that states it must return fuel economy of 2l/100km (118mpg US/141mpg UK), and that all of its major technical innovations must be production-feasible by the year 2020. The Eolab is actually two cars – the Eolab prototype, which the engineering team has signed off as capable of 1l/100km (235mpg US/282mpg UK), and the Eolab Concept, which was overseen by the design team.
Caterham – including Caterham F1 – up for sale for £350 million
Mon, 26 May 2014Will the Caterham AeroSeven Concept (pictured) be a casualty of Caterham’s impending sale? Caterham’s foray in to F1 hasn’t been much of a success, with not a single point on the F1 board since they arrived in 2010 as Lotus Racing (although Marcus Ericsson was just one place off a point at Monaco yesterday). Now, after warning back in January that he would walk away from F1 if the Caterham team’s performance on track didn’t improve, it looks like Fernandes is ready to walk away from Caterham altogether.
