New 2014 Porsche Macan revealed in LA
Wed, 20 Nov 2013Porsche has revealed its new compact SUV at the LA Motor Show - the first time, claims the German brand, that a sports car has ever been offered in the compact SUV segment. The firm really is going all-out to emphasise the sporting aspects of the Macan: it sets new benchmarks for the segment on road, says Porsche. "It is the sports car in it segment." Deliveries of the new Macan begin in April 2014 - but it is actually on sale now.
One-off 1990 Corvette ZR-1 Spyder saved from sinkhole; video shows extraction
Tue, 01 Apr 2014You'll have to excuse the National Corvette Museum's timing -- museum staff are excited to report that a one-off 1990 Corvette ZR-1 Spyder has just been pulled from the sinkhole that opened up beneath the show floor in February, and they want you to know that this isn't some sort of cruel April 1 hoax. Don't believe us? Just watch the video below There hasn't been much headline-making news out of the Corvette museum since the 1 millionth Corvette built was saved from the sarlacc pit in early March, bringing the number of cars returned to ground level to five.
Volkswagen XL1
Fri, 22 Feb 2013This, remarkably, is the production version of the Volkswagen XL1, the most fuel-efficient production car in the world, a car we'll see in Geneva in a little over a week. Barely changed from the concept version shown at the Qatar motor show two years ago, the production XL1 is the first production result of VW's 1-liter project – to design a car that uses less than 1l/100km (282.5mpg imperial) – that started with the lozenge-shaped, tandem-seat 2003 1L and the later L1 of 2009. The XL1 actually beats that by sipping just 0.9 liters with CO2 emissions of 21g/km.
