McLaren P11 caught testing

Fri, 30 Jan 2009

Proof of how far along the P11 is came today with pictures of the car out testing in chilly climes in Sweden (just like the next generation Porsche 911 (998) and the new Baby Rolls Royce, the RR4). McLaren P11 caught testing in snowy Sweden The McLaren P11 is a hand-built carbon composite 2 seater, mid engined car, with a target weight of only 1250kg. Power is likely to come from a Mercedes lump, and probably a tuned version of the 6.2 litre AMG found in the ’63s’, mated to an F1 style flappy-paddle gearbox.

CCS Ford Model T project

Fri, 13 Jun 2008

This past semester, eleven junior-level College for Creative Studies (CCS) Transportation Design students were asked to reinterpret an automotive icon: the Ford Model T. Over the course of the 16-week semester the students created 11 different concepts for a Model T for the future without forgetting the underlying principle - creating an icon that would have equal significance and social impact like the 100 year old original.   On April 30 each of the students presented their research, sketches, renderings and one- quarter scale models judged by Peter Horbury, Ford Executive Director of Design, The Americas and Pat Schiavone, Ford's Design Director for North America Trucks and CUVs. The winning concept, which the judges thought best embodied the spirit, innovation and sociological impact equal to that of the original Model T, was created by Dong Tran, of Cicero, New York.

Renault Laguna GT (2008): first official pictures

Fri, 22 Feb 2008

By Chris Chilton First Official Pictures 22 February 2008 13:02 There are no Renaultsport badges anywhere on the new Renault Laguna GT but the crack chassis team have been hard at work under the skin. The same people who brought us the brilliant Clio Cup are behind the four-wheel steer system on this Laguna’s Active Drive chassis. Twenty years ago Japanese car makers seemed fascinated by the potential benefits of steering cars using both axles (and not just by nailing the throttle in your Starion) but the idea seemed to have disappeared until now.
