Exclusive: Phil Zak appointed Chief Designer at Hyundai America (updated)

Phillip A Zak will become the new Chief Designer at Hyundai's North American Design Center in Irvine, California, filling the role previously held by former GM designer Joel Piaskowski who left Hyundai to become Head of Advanced Design at Mercedes-Benz's North American Design Center in January of this year. Zak joins Hyundai from his previous role as head of exterior design at GM Europe - a post he has held since August 2007 - and will work in parallel to European Chief Designer Thomas Buerkle (who worked at BMW before joining the Korean automaker), developing vehicles for the North American market. Porsche recalls GT3 for fire risk

Porsche is telling 2014 911 GT3 owners to park their cars until the company can check them out for engine problems that could cause a fire. Porsche says it will pick the vehicles up and take them to a Porsche Center immediately, and that safety is its immediate concern. Two vehicles in Europe caught fire after engine damage occurred, so Porsche decided to inspect all 785 vehicles delivered worldwide.

Bertone may sell Nuccio supercar concept to Chinese collector

Italian design and engineering firm Bertone is in talks with a Chinese car collector to sell its one-off Nuccio supercar. "We are currently in close negotiations with a Chinese collector who wants to buy the Nuccio," Bertone CEO Marco Filippa told Automotive News Europe at the Beijing motor show. The asking price for the Nuccio, which took an estimated 15,000 hours to design, engineer and build, is about $2.64 million (2 million euros), Filippa said.
