Mercedes-Benz A-class gets the AMG treatment

Mercedes-Benz has confirmed limited details about its most affordable performance model to date, the A45 AMG. Set to go on sale in Europe in early 2013, the rival to the Audi RS3 and the BMW M135i sits at the top of the third-generation A-class lineup. The title of the world’s fastest car held by the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport has been removed from the Guinness World Records. But, nearly three years on from when the Veyron Super Sport achieved its world record run of 267.81mph, Guinness World Records have decided that it’s invalid. It seems the heirs to the McWhirter twins have discovered the Veyron Super Sport Bugatti used for their record setting run wasn’t a standard production car, but that Bugatti had removed its speed limiter.

UK Car Sales up again in October 2012

New car registrations rose in October by 12.1 per cent in the UK, the ninth month of 2012 to see rising car sales. The European car market may be in a real mess with carnage looming for production facilities run by mainstream car makers, but the UK continues to grow its new car market with sales in October up by 12.1 per cent. Total new car registrations (which includes pre-reg) rose to 151,252 units, the ninth monthly increase of 2012, and the SMMT are now predicting total sales for 2012 of over 2 million, back to 2010 levels after a fall in 2011 to below the 2 million mark.
