What is an exhaust brake?
Exhaust brakes fit in the exhaust system, downstream from the turbocharger, and provide braking assistance by creating engine backpressure from the vehicle's exhaust. The resulting backpressure safely slows the vehicle without damaging the engine and prevents wear on the service brakes. Most importantly, backpressure equals braking power. Controlling the amount of backpressure is what makes a good exhaust brake.

Introducing the Pacbrake PRXB
Pacbrake’s flagship product, the PRXB (pressure regulated exhaust brake), is the unquestioned leader in the supplemental brake industry. The patented PRXB design delivers the strongest braking horsepower, greatest speed reductions and shortest stopping distances possible without the use of service brakes. It maintains optimum retarding performance by maximizing the exhaust backpressure throughout the entire RPM range. Unlike a typical exhaust brake, which requires high RPMs to work properly, the PRXB delivers constant exhaust pressure (braking) as early as 1200 RPM through to the maximum allowable RPM.
Pacbrake PRXB
Why choose Pacbrake's PRXB?
The problem with exhaust brakes in the past is that as the vehicle slows down, the RPMs drop and you lose backpressure - resulting in a loss of braking power. Pacbrake's PRXB addresses this ver issue with a patented waste-gate valve that is designed to close as the engine RPMs begin to drop. The closing of this valve will maintain engine backpressure and therefore provide constant braking power, especially at the lower to mid-range RPMs where you need it the most.
Pacbrake’s PRXB Exhaust Brake has revolutionized the braking industry. Adapted for a variety of diesel vehicle applications, the PRXB provides the strongest braking horsepower, greatest speed reductions and shortest stopping distances possible without the use of conventional brakes. PRXB exhaust brakes are the answer
Pacbrake quote
Exhaust Brakes for Diesel Trucks
If you've ever traveled downhill with a heavy load, you may have asked yourself "Will I be avle to slow down: Will my brakes hold?" Not only can hills overpower your truck's braking system, they constantly contribute to heavy wear on your brake pads. Over time, this unnecessary wear decreases your brake's effectiveness and can leave you without the brake power you need while traveling on your next trip. A supplemental braking system, such as an exhaust brake, will alleviate any doubt you have of your truck's braking avilities.

The PRXB delivers the strongest braking horsepower, greatest speed reductions and shortest stopping distances possible without the use of service brakes. Unlik a typical exhaust brake which reuires high engine RPMs to work properly, the patented PRXB delivers constant exhaust backpressure (braking) as early as 1200 RPM through to the highest allowable RPM. Not only does the PRXB provide increased performance, it offers peace of mind with technology that protects from engine overpressure potential.
WHAT’S SO SPECIAL ABOUT THE PRXB?
In order to have consistent and effective braking over the entire RPM range, it is important (and necessary) to maintain constant backpressure. To achieve this, Pacbrake’s patented design has incorporated an additional waste gate on the butterfly valve to regulate the amount of exhaust flow that is being passed through. The flow is controlled by a spring-loaded arm, whose pressure rating and location are key factors in the functionality of the PRXB. Located outside of the housing and away from the heat, the spring is able to maintain its strength and durability for years of proper and precise braking performance.
  • Stainless steel sealed air cylinder with high performance seals
  • Maximum allowable exhaust backpressure. Factory preset limit designed to meet the requirements set by the engine manufacture
  • Both mounting surefaces are machined, therefore, eliminating the need for gaskets
  • Arcor nitrided housing and components to increase resistance to wear and corrosion. Strengthens and adds lubricity
  • When not activated, exhaust flow in unrestricted and doesn't interfere with the power output
  • 90 degree closing, non-contacting butterfly valve guarantees engine safety while preventing sticking
  • Optimum retarding performance is maintained by maximizing exhaust backpressure throughout the entire RPM range

PACBRAKE's SUPERLUBE
Exhaust Brake Maintenance with Superlube
(NOT INCLUDED IN THIS AUCTION)
Extend the life of your exhaust brake with Pacbrake’s Superlube, a multi-purpose, heat resistant, synthetic lubricant that penetrates and protects your exhaust brake. Using Superlube on your exhaust brake reduces friction and wear, helps prevent rust and corrosion and protects against binding or sticking. This high quality lubricant can also be used for household, hobby, fishing, marine, hunting and automotive applications.

With the engine off, apply a sufficient amount (4-5 drops) to the highlighted locations shown on the above diagram. Once all the points have been lubricated, cycle the exhaust brake manually or electronically a few times to work the lubricant in. These steps will ensure that the Pacbrake continues to function properly.

PACBRAKE'S SWITCH-PAC
(NOT INCLUDED IN THIS AUCTION)
Designed specially for manual transmission vehicles, Pacbrake’s Switch-Pac is a shifter-mounted ON/OFF switch. The convenient fingertip control location provides easy access for exhaust brake activation. The Switch-Pac can operate not only your vehicle's exhaust brake, but other vehicle accessories such as Pacbrake's air horns.

ECM BYPASS SWITCH
(NOT INCLUDED IN THIS AUCTION)
Vehicles with an engine ECU (electronic control unit) experience a 2½ second delay when activating their exhaust brake circuit. Pacbrake’s ECM Bypass kit eliminates this delay with bypassing the computer system using a mechanical throttle switch mounted on the accelerator linkage.

Saab 9-3X (2009) first official pictures

Wed, 11 Feb 2009

By Ben Pulman First Official Pictures 11 February 2009 11:48 Saab finally has a new model, but it’s not the long-awaited new 9-5 or the 9-4X SUV. Instead it’s the 9-3X, a jacked-up estate in the style of the Audi Allroad. Like the Audi, it’s only available in estate guise (Sport Wagon in Saab speak), and will be officially unveiled at the 2009 Geneva motor show in just a few weeks' time.

Opel / Vauxhall Insignia Sports Tourer Crossfour revealed

Fri, 30 Dec 2011

Insignia Sports Tourer Crossfour leaks out Opel / Vauxhall are planning a competitor to the Audi Allroad with a high-riding version of the Insignia Sports Tourer CrossFour. Audi have had the butched-up estate market pretty much all to itself for a long time with the Allroad, but hot on the heels of theVW Passat Alltrack we now look like we’re about to get a new competitor from GM in Europe – the Vauxhall / Opel Insignia Sports Tourer CrossFour. Opel has taken the normal recipe for the CrossFour, with plastic bits bolted on to the bumpers and wheel arches, a higher ride height and the obligatory four wheel drive, and mixed them in to the very capable Insignia Sports Tourer.

CAR Most Wanted of 2014: Land Rover Freelander

Thu, 19 Dec 2013

By Ollie Kew First Official Pictures 19 December 2013 12:50 Settle down, Range Rover, and your Sport and Evoque cousins. It’s now Land Rover’s turn for a high-tech new 4x4 family, and it kicks off with the new Land Rover Freelander. Except, as CAR reported earlier in 2013, the Freelander replacement will bin that name – and, hopes Land Rover, the moniker’s poor reliability connotations.
