NEW VERSION MIKE500 "box beam" PRIUS 'C' BRACE.

These mid-chassis braces provide greater stability and better feedback to the driver's road feel. The "squishy" feeling is reduced or virtually eliminated.

The Prius C, in all versions does not come with a mid chassis under brace. THREADED MOUNTING HOLES ARE PROVIDED, BUT NO CHASSIS BRACE IS INSTALLED TO MAINTAIN CORRECT SEPARATION BETWEEN THE RAILS OF THE CAR. The inverted “U” formed by the rails are free to “flutter” in and out from the center axis. I've seen only one individual car that had one from the factory.

In making it, I looked at the construction, engineering and installation of the expensive one made by Cusco in Japan.

The Cusco model is heavier and made of three welded pieces. Welding weakens the hardening of the tempered aluminum components at the joint. Installed, my brace adds a mere 10 ounces of weight to the car.

This virtually "bulletproof" brace is made of a single piece of extruded tempered 6011-T6511 aluminum. The ends are bored to take the included 10.9 grade better than OEM flange bolts are J.I.S. with 12mm hex heads; the same heads as the factory bolts on the car.

The center section of the Cusco brace reduces clearance for the exhaust system. Mine provides maximum clearance.

The "hang down" of my brace is about 1/2 inch, which is about the same as the Cusco's at the mounting bolts.

Both mounts with two bolts. There is no advantage to the additional "contact points" that the Cusco brace makes with the tunnel.

The brace is machined from a 6061 T651 age solution hardened aircraft grade aluminum extrusion. The extruding process eliminates the stress from bending sheet or plate aluminum and makes the piece much more resistant to metal fatigue. This means that the brace will likely outlast the car. There are no welds to break and weaken the tempered aluminum. The brace's design represents my 45 years experience in the aircraft metal fabrication industry. The brace has been phosphoric acid etched and coated with a special “oven baked” direct to metal black epoxy finish.

Installation should take less than 15 minutes. Jacking or lifting the car is NOT needed. The mounting holes are made purposely as small as possible to provide the closest mounting. Toyota and other aftermarket custom makers like use comparatively large clearance holes for easy mounting. That, however, makes for a less secure and weaker fit. A little filing may be necessary for some individual vehicles due to manufacturing variances.

This sale is for ONE Prius C “WHITE” oven baked epoxy finished brace with two 10.9 grade J.I.S. standard mounting bolts. Nothing else shown in the photos of the Prius C chassis is included. .

The item is guaranteed to be exactly as described.

Ford Fiesta Zetec ECOnetic & Titanium ECOnetic added to Fiesta range

Tue, 27 Sep 2011

Ford Fiesta Zetec ECOnetic & Titanium ECOnetic added to the Fiesta range Back in early 2009, when we reviewed the first Fiesta ECOnetic, we were suitably impressed with what a decent job Ford had done with their eco-friendly Fiesta. But we said that Ford would ‘…do better making ‘ECOnetic’ an option, not a model’. And it looks like someone at Warley was listening.

Pagani Zonda Tricolore: One-off Zonda at Geneva

Sat, 27 Feb 2010

The Pagani Zonda Tricolore - Geneva bound (click for bigger image) We already know that Pagani are taking the Zonda Cinque Roadster #4 to shove on their stand at the Geneva Motor Show, and you can add to that what could be considered an even rarer version of the Zonda – the Pagani Zonda Tricolore. This particulay Zonda has been created to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Italian equivalent of the Red Arrows – the ‘Frecce Tricolori – and ordered up by a Pagani  distributor, which almost certainly means it’s already sold – for €1.3 million. Based on the Cinque, the Zonda Tricolore gets a fancy paint job which includes stripes which mimic the colours of the Frecce Tricori.

Hyundai reveals updated 2011 Genesis coupe range

Fri, 16 Jul 2010

After holding its own against more established rear-wheel-drive coupe offerings such as the Ford Mustang and the Nissan Z, Hyundai is updating its Genesis coupe for the 2011 model year. Highlighting the changes is the addition of a new 3.8 R-Spec equipment package, which previously was only available on the turbocharged four-cylinder model. Included in the R-spec package are 19-inch wheels with Bridgestone Potenza RE050A tires, Brembo brakes, a stiffened suspension, a limited-slip differential and adjustable front camber bolts.
