McLaren today opened the doors to its new McLaren Production Centre which will build the MP4-12C and all future supercars from Ron Dennis's fledgling sports car brand. British prime minister David Cameron attended the event, hailing the economic benefits of manufacturing. He said the UK car industry was helping reshape the national economy from a service-based one enriching the minority to one which actually made things again - to the benefit of a wider slice of society.

Fiat has turned the Fiat Panda 4×4 in to a monster SUV with 60 inch wheels to star in a new Fiat TV commercial arriving in 2013. We’re used to seeing big American SUVs get monster tyres to turn them in to car-crushing monster SUVs. But turning the comparative;y diminutive Fiat Panda 4×4 in to a monster truck is something altogether different.

Ford's NA Design Director aims to shorten product lifecycles

Peter Horbury, Ford Motor Company North America Design Director, has told Automotive News he intends to shorten product lifecycles at the ailing company from an average five years to three years starting this decade. "We feel there is no value in minor changes but a huge value in major changes," Horbury told the industry weekly. Ford needs to ensure that buyers continue visiting showrooms as the giant automaker struggles to retain market share.
