SPD starts collaboration with VW Group Design on Masters program

Scuola Politecnica di Design (SPD) and Volkswagen Group Design are starting a new five year collaboration program focused on the development of experimental mobility projects for Lamborghini, Audi and Volkswagen. The Milan, Italy-based university is offering eight scholarships to participate to the one year Master Program in Car and Transportation Design, which will take place from 21 October 2010 to October 2011. The university is currently accepting applications from students and professionals from all over the world, with the aim of providing training with the protagonists of automotive design.

Transport costs mean four in 10 'will shun Christmas festivities'

MORE THAN four in 10 people will not see as many friends and family as they’d like to this Christmas because of the cost or availability of transport. According to research from breakdown service Green Flag, 23% of people will cut back on journeys because of the cost of fuel. A further 16% will shun social visits because of limited public transport availability, and a separate 17% will fall short on Christmas visits because of the cost of public transport.

RCA students open Clerkenwell Week Design with Jaguar-inspired artwork

Two Royal College of Art students have designed a Jaguar-inspired sculpture to celebrate the opening of Clerkenwell Design Week in London. Ewan Gallimore and Claire Miller developed their idea alongside Jaguar's Advanced Design team in Whitley, Coventry, by using technologies applied in the creation of Jaguar production and concept cars. The two were the successful team from a selection of nine groups who submitted entries after Jaguar's challenge to the RCA's Vehicle Design and Textile Design departments.
