After all, despite weighing roughly the same as a grouse moor (unlike the previous generation which weighed slightly more than a small moon), it’s 500bhp V8 moves this SUV to 60mph in a chunk less than 5 seconds. But power under the bonnet is addictive, and even if you have 500bhp under your right foot there will always be occasions when you wish you had just that bit more.

Wed, 30 Oct 2013The most recent advance in vehicle safety has to be the autonomous emergency braking system (AEB) – a sophisticated suite of sensors and electronics that monitors objects in front of your car, automatically applying the brakes for you if it senses you’re heading to hit something. Up until now these auto-brake features have not been rated, but ahead of a new 2014 test that will include AEB systems in its overall safety star scoring, Euro NCAP has put the some of the vehicles already equipped with this technology through their paces. Magna gets Vauxhall and Opel
Sat, 30 May 2009Canadian parts maker Magna takes control of Opel and Vauxhall The German Government is to supply funding of €1.5 billion to help the new Opel/Vauxhall operation to finance the transition. The news hasn’t come a moment too soon, as the US Government had given GM only until Monday to resolve the issue before the likely bankruptcy of GM. The Opel/Vauxhall operation will now be ring-fenced from the insolvency of its former parent in the US and will become ana entity in its own right.
