So-Cal I-Beam 47" I-Beam Axle

So-Cal Speed Shop is proud to announce the addition of this forged steel I-beam axle to its New Traditionalist product line.

So-Cal's engineering staff spent the better part of three years refining a design that takes into account the idiosyncrasies of a reproduction part that must first work with original '37 -'48 Ford Spindles.

The axle does that and more. It defines the quality and attention to detail customers have come to expect from So-Cal Speed Shop.

The latest addition, and now a cornerstone of the SO-CAL family of chassis components, is our forged dropped axle.

SO-CAL's engineering staff spent the better part of three years refining a design that takes into account the idiosyncrasies of a reproduction part that must first work with original Ford components.

The new forged 1045 heat treated steel 4" dropped axle does that and more.  The real test is trying to install stock spindles and having them go lock-to-lock.

SO-CAL's axle shows a 30% improvement over the competition in turning radius alone so when it's time to install reproduction parts, there's no problem.

The forged axle measures 47" through the king pin centers and 34" wide at the 2-1/4" thick spring perch boss.

Art Center Car Classic features the world's great automobiles

Tue, 29 Oct 2013

It seems like we say this every year, but this year it's truly fitting: this was the best Art Center Car Classic ever. Consider that the show covered both ends of the Corvette spectrum, from Peter Brock and the rise of the original “Mitchell Corvette” -- which was right there parked on the grass -- to General Motors designer Pete Thomas and the new C7 parked not far away, with the Mako Shark and the '63 split-window Sting Ray lined up between. A couple car lengths from that was the debut of the finally finished Peter Mullin Bugatti Type 64, a spectacular re-imagining of Jean Bugatti's unfinished final car done by Art Center students and Transportation Design chair Stewart Reed.

SAIC Roewe-MG Cup design competition winners announced

Wed, 16 Oct 2013

The results of SAIC's Roewe-MG Cup design competition are in, with East China Normal University student Sun Jiajun taking top honors with his 850 Celebration concept. Themed ‘Roewe 2020: Elegant Confidence', the contest asked Chinese university students to design a future sedan, SUV or MPV for Roewe in 2020. Coming in second behind Jiajun were Qian Junlin and Zhang Mingxi, both of Jiang Nan University.

Jaguar's stunning E-type defined 'car' for an American generation

Tue, 17 May 2011

You could start with the stunning good looks that make the Jaguar E-Type a permanent fixture at New York's Museum of Modern Art or with the style and character that defined an era. You could start with the technological innovation, the impressive performance or the value that the E-type's contemporaries simply could not match. In cold retrospect, there isn't much in the E-type--or the XKE, as it was widely known on this side of the Atlantic--to tarnish its image.
