Famous racers dominate classic car auction

MORE THAN 100 classic cars and motorbikes will go under the hammer this weekend at one of the biggest ever auctions of its type. Silverstone Auctions will host the Race Retro sale at Stoneleigh Park in Warwickshire, where famous names like Ayrton Senna, James Hunt and Colin McRae will be scattered throughout the lots. But the sales figures are, by any measure, impressive with a total of 425,006 cars sold between Jaguar and Land Rover in 2013 – an all time record and up 19 per cent on 2012. Sales success wasn’t concentrated in just one market either, with sales up in Asia Pacific and the China region by 30 per cent, North America up 21 per cent, the UK up 14 per cent, Europe up 6 per cent, and other overseas markets up 23 per cent.

Volkswagen to add compact four-door coupe to its lineup

Volkswagen has hatched plans for a second four-door “coupe” model as part of a strategy to shore up its North American and Chinese market shares while providing a suitable addition to its European lineup. To be positioned underneath the recently facelifted CC, the new four-seater is set to form part of the Jetta lineup, joining successors to today's sedan and wagon models in an expanded three-model range. They're all set to hail from Volkswagen's Puebla plant in Mexico, the same site responsible for the newly launched second-generation Beetle.
