Almost 34,000 people have now signed a petition on the Number 10 website urging the Government to ‘not reduce the national speed limit to 50mph.’ It’s become the second most popular petition on the site – ahead of similar bids to stop the Government raising university tuition fees and beaten only by one calling for Gordon Brown to resign as prime minister.Cutting the UK’s national speed limits from 60mph to 50mph: the backgroundBack in March 2009, plans were announced that the Government wanted to cut the national speed limit from 60mph to 50mph on single carriageways in rural areas. Four artists created four very different visions, which went on display under the title ‘Cabinet of Curiosities' from December to January at L'Atelier Renault on the Avenue des Champs-Élysées, Paris. Four artistic disciplines – fashion, food, music and design – were represented by French fashion designer Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, Italian chef Davide Scabin, former Girls Aloud member Nicola Roberts and German designer Nils Holger Moormann, respectively.

When you’re not worried about being parsimonious with your fuel the Polo GT skips along to 62mph in 7.9 seconds and handles well enough thanks to the Polo’s already decent setup and a 15mm lower suspension.
