CFR has developed a rear axle conversion kit for racing Spitfires. The kit includes a 25% larger axle. The larger alloy hubs are made out of a billet  block of 7071 aluminum alloy. The larger bearings included in the kit incorporate needle bearings that ride on a bearing race rather than on the axle for greater longevity, thus eliminating the chance of ruining a axle. This design also incorporates a pressed on bearing retainer to retain the bearing  no more groove in the axle eliminating the factory weak point. The kit includes everything you need for a race proven install. Kits are available for narrow track Spitfires wide track are a special order with a price of $1995.  .
This race proven design will be reliable for many years of use as all the Spitfire Racing parts designed, raced and supported by Chequered Flag Racing. So what you will get is a axle that is ready to install just add your brakes.  I will assemble the right and left axle split the rear vertical links widen and weld back together. I will need your old vertical link and brake backing plate or a core charge will be charged. Thanks  Joe 1 818 350 six two two two

Just added pictures of 3 sets going out this week.

A little background first. I had a guy who wanted to buy a set of my race axles for his Spitfire however there was a catch. He wanted the disc brake conversion kit he got with the purchase of his Spitfire to fit my axles. The Spitfire was all disassembled and in boxes. So I had him send me the kit ( the pictures are his axle set I got to work with my axle kit). Well as you can see with some machining and a little work all lined up perfect. I got a phone call from him and as he was going thru more boxes he came across more aluminum brackets. Looks like the previous owner had the brackets copied lucky me. So he gave me the brackets he will never need them.

My rear disc brake conversion kit will include everything needed to fit it to a Spitfire rear brake assm.

BMW's N20 engine--four cylinders, more power

Fri, 18 Feb 2011

More power, greater torque, reduced fuel consumption, lower tailpipe emissions and less weight--but better? Before driving the BMW X1 xDrive28i, the first model to feature the German carmaker's new turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine, we weren't so sure. The new engine, known as the N20 and set to lead a return of four-cylinder BMW models to North America for the first time since 1998, has been conceived to (indirectly) replace the company's long-running naturally aspirated 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder.
