Wed, 09 Apr 2008By Ben Oliver Motor Shows 09 April 2008 10:47 Lewis Hamilton, at least seven Formula One teams and a long list of dramatic new road cars will headline the 2008 Goodwood Festival of Speed.The theme for this year’s event is ‘Hawthorne to Hamilton – Britain’s Love Affair with World Motor Sport’ and celebrates the fiftieth anniversary of Mike Hawthorn becoming Britain’s first F1 champion.Touring cars, rally cars, you name it...Other major anniversaries being marked include 50 years of British Touring cars. Organiser Lord March promises the most complete collection of BTCC cars yet assembled, from the Minis and vast Ford Galaxies of the sixties, through the Capris of the Seventies and Cosworths of the Eighties to the saloons of the formula’s Nineties heyday.The Ford and Subaru world rally teams are confirmed, and modern sports car racing will be represented by the Le Mans-winning Audi R10 diesel and GT1 class-winning Aston Martin DBR9 in Gulf colours.
Caterham creates next car online
Wed, 05 Nov 2008By Ben Whitworth Motor Industry 05 November 2008 10:08 Caterham has turned to cyberspace to design its next model – the low-volume carmaker is calling on fans around the world to log onto a bespoke website to submit their ideas and designs for every aspect of the new Caterham, before ultimately voting on what makes it to the final vehicle. The website – www.splitwheel.com - will act as a forum, hosting blogs, articles and what Caterham calls ‘a Wikipedia-style user-edited knowledge base’ to turn user input into a workable vehicle design. A comprehensive voting system that covers all aspects of the car will then be initiated, and once the final specification is agreed a prototype will be produced with initial production slated for 2011.
Porsche driver Hans Herrmann, Autoweek columnist Denise McCluggage inducted into Sebring Hall of Fame
Fri, 16 Mar 2012Porsche great Hans Herrmann was inducted into the Sebring Hall of Fame, two days prior to the 60th anniversary of the 12-hour race. He was joined by Geoff Brabham, Autoweek columnist Denise McCluggage, Johnny O'Connell and Jim Downing. Herrmann's racing career spanned from 1953 to 1970.
